Art Challenge: Sequential Art
I am way behind, 12 and 13 are in my head I know what I want to draw but when I sit down I get nothing. I just have been in an art slump. But I had an idea for this weeks challenge. It’s the four stages of my drawing. I figure it is always interesting to see how other people do things so I would show my method. And it would make it simpler for yal to critique me if you knew what I did.

The feet are really hard to see, but they are just real quick scribbles to get the gist of what I will be drawing. I draw in no scan blue so I went over it in light pencil.

The legs are where I start to draw. These are the lines I decide to keep, this is where I draw and erase. I really like these lines. They are naturally weighted lines. I hope to do that with ink one day.

Torso, the first inking. This is to get all the lines done in. I usually ink with the 01 Micron, and then I use the 005 for detail and the other thicknesses when the mood strikes. The left hand is a little messed up. I would have done what I could to fix it when I went back and thickened lines but it was in the wrong section for that.

The Face is the final inking. I thicken the line and add detail. Ruby told me to use a thick line on the outer edge so I tried it. I like the look, but when I look at her drawings I can see a greater variance in the line thickness. And she has a flow that you don’t even notice. I don’t have that yet. I was going to make the eyes glow, I was all ready to make all the lines around the eyes thin but my hand shook. I ended up using standard thick lines to cover the mistake.

This was going to be a male but I fell in love with those lips. After I drew them in pencil I had to keep them. I couldn’t bring myself to redraw them masculine. I had the whole picture blocked out for a man.

May I say I don't find the lips too feminine? There's no reason at all men can't have full lips. Or thick lashes, for that matter. Faces are gendered more in the bone structure. Right now, I admit, you've kinda drawn Vaarsuvius.Well, V's...sibling, anyway. But that is in itself cool.

The process: I can't actually see the feet, so no comments there. And I'm assuming you're showing off your whole process here for us, so if there's any of this you're just not showing, feel free to ignore it.

It looks like you're going straight to blocking the outline. I'd suggest that doing a gesture underdrawing makes for so *much* less effort in the long run, and much better final results. It is way easier to correct the angle of a couple connected lines. Generally, and especially until you get your feet under you, the pictures will bend more to your whim if you go gesture-fleshing out-details. Like...like photoshop layers, but on your own. Er. I'll try to draw an explanation later today.

Honestly, I really like the face. The ear's up a little high, but along with the slit eyes, it looks like that might be intentional. Arms, especially the lower arms, could use some more mass. And your stuff always looks like it should be colored. Show that process next:).

The feet are there you just have to go full view, and squint to see them.
